BEST BOOK EVER READ
# 1 thing I’ve done to develop as a human being. Off rack suit vs. tailor suit. Customize to you. Information out there is noise. Lots of books say same thing. or contradict. Journal is where you tailor information to you. Become best book ever read.

COACH YOURSELF
“Know thyself” wellspring of positive psychology. Socrates / arestotle / plato all said. Self help industry grew to $10B in USA alone. Seminars go for $3,000 coaching is $500/hr – not everyone can afford. Psycho therapy / psychologist all methods require someone else – journal is almost form of mediation. Most that info is online for free. You can coach yourself. Hold yourself accountable. Self driven / motivated in $7 journal. Work for it.

LIFE IS ABOUT QUESTIONS
Thinking is nothing more than asking / answering questions. Want to change life? Upgrade questions you ask.
(EX: “How do I get paid” = get a job. Wont make you happy. VS. “How do I get paid…. to do what i love” = find your passion. Now on right track) Journal is your workbook to store them / work them out. Can also free write in here (no prompt) figure things out. Do the work and question things – in journal.

KEEPING A LOG
EX: want to get in shape – wish you took progress before / after photos?
EX: time where you found yourself saying “MAN! I wish we got that on camera!
Look back at old journals one of greatest aspects of keeping it! Revisit insights / re apply them. OR look at “failures” or struggles from back in day – hindsight with current wisdom. Talking to yourself from 5 years ago. Major click / lightbulbs go off. (EX: with me college struggling or travel journals)

KNOWLEDGE IS EVERYWHERE
Snapple lid / FB quotes / fitness instagram inspiration / youtube book summaries.Not about the ideas any more. About the application. We’re surrounded by knowledge, but staving for wisdom. Knowledge is gathering ideas. Wisdom is connecting the dots. Journaling is how you do this! What motivational quotes are to wisdom, caffeine is to energy. Feels great, doesn’t last. What does last? Exercise, water, sleep, fundamentals. Journaling is a fundamental for wisdom / life.

WHAT IT’S NOT: MYTHS
Dear Diary – not this kind of journal method I teach.
Women Only – majority of emails I get are from MEN.
No benefit w/ digital age – Cone of learning.

OUTCOME VS PROCESS
So much of culture is outcome driven results. OR quantified by numerical success
EX: how much money did you make / earn / spend / worth / it cost
EX: how many people have you dated / slept with / hooked up with
EX: how many countries have you been to (backpacking)
“personal growth” most ambiguous thing out there. Journaling is a way you can see progress not get discouraged – be process driven

JOURNEY
We all know it’s about the journey not destination. Snapple wisdom for you. But how many us have systems to aid us on journey? If we don’t – end up wanting to skip to result and discouraged because it’s not quantifiable. Journal is your map on the journey of personal transformation.
