I don’t know about you but anything with peaches just scream summer to me! My whole family loves a good, juicy peach and my famous peach pie! A few years ago, I shared this recipe for a Peach Pie Smoothie as part of the Produce For Kids Simply Summer e-book (more about that later).

Y’all! With the blend of peaches, spices and a touch of oatmeal, it tastes JUST LIKE A PIECE OF PEACH PIE!! Creamy and full of protein, it’s perfect for breakfast or snack on a warm summer day.

Healthy Smoothies Make a Great Breakfast or Snack

I’m a big fan of smoothies! You can fill them with so many healthy and delicious ingredients and feel better about enjoying them.

Smoothies make a great breakfast or snack. A few of my favorites are my Peanut Butter & Jelly Smoothie, Simple Triple Berry Banana Green Smoothie and Green Monster Banana Spinach Smoothie. You can usually substitute fresh fruits, too, so you can enjoy seasonal smoothies year round.

I love mixing up smoothies in my Vitamix blender.  It was a splurge that I made a few years ago when my old blender died (I had had it since college!) but it definitely gets the job done to make sure my smoothies are really smooth!

How To Enjoy Peaches In Season or Year Round

In my part of the country, Texas is known for its Hill Country Peaches. If you’ve never been, did you know there are hills in Texas? It is a gorgeous part of the state and one I love to visit as often as I can. In summer, you’ll find all kinds of fruit stands pop up along the side of the road usually selling watermelons and peaches.

The peaches go by several names, Fredericksburg Peaches (a little town in central Texas), Stonewall Peaches or Texas Hill Country Peaches. No matter what you call them, they’re all delicious.

Don’t live in Texas? That’s ok, you can find peaches at their peak season at you local grocery store.

I know Georgia Peaches are famous too! I remember one year visiting my sister-in-law when she lived in Philadelphia and we went to a u-pick farm in New Jersey to pick peaches too!
As with much of the produce grown in the United States, more than 50 percent of peaches are grown in California. No matter where you get them, they’re all delicious in my book.

And don’t forget, you can enjoy frozen peaches year round and include them in recipes like this Peach Pie Smoothie.

Don’t Forget the Reusable Straws

You may also notice in the pictures I have a reusable glass straw. We love our glass and metal straws! It makes drinking smoothies a lot easier and more fun too! We have a set of glass straws like these. They’re great because they come with a carrying case so you can take them when you’re out to eat and also cleaning brushes that make sure you get them clean inside.  They are made with tempered glass and are pretty durable (I’ve never had one break yet!) We also have a set of these metal straws with colored silicone tips. I like them for when I may be carrying them a bit longer than the glass straws and want that extra assurance of durability.

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 cup peaches chilled and sliced
  • 1/3 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup crushed ice
  • 1/2 cup plain lowfat Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

  • In blender combine milk, peaches, oats, yogurt, honey, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and ice.

  •  Blend until smooth and serve.

Serving: 1cup | Calories: 159kcal | Carbohydrates: 27g | Protein: 8g | Fat: 2g | Cholesterol: 2mg | Sodium: 144mg | Potassium: 265mg | Fiber: 3g | Sugar: 17g | Vitamin A: 5% | Vitamin C: 6.2% | Calcium: 17.4% | Iron: 4.3%

Combine all ingredients except milk and ice. Store in labeled freezer safe zip top bag. When ready to use, thaw slightly at room temperature (about 10 minutes) and break up slightly before dumping ingredients in your blender. Add milk and ice and blend. You can make up multiple smoothie “kits” to have on hand in your freezer to save you time in the kitchen!
Purchase some ingredients in bulk like larger containers of plain Greek yogurt (I like the organic yogurt from Costco) or frozen peaches and make up smoothie “kits”. When you buy in bulk you can save money in the long run!
